BUSINESS MODEL

Improve agricultural efficiency through a range of low cost, easy to maintain and easy to use technologies that enable smallholder farmers to lift water and/or to efficiently apply water to the field. The technologies are manufactured and distributed by commercial players, while IDEI uses grants to fund product development, quality control and demand generation.

US$1.7 million FY13 (Mar-13).

Delivered to date

Sold 1,270,419 technologies reaching 6.8million people that made a cumulative net return over US$1.3billion.  Their work also generated USD$758million in related farming employment income and USD$141million in supply chain margin.

Impact

On average customers earn $500 extra per year, which is an increase of 70-100% of their annual agriculture income.  

BIG PLANS

To enable 5.5 million farmer households in India to acquire low-cost irrigation technologies by 2020.
