BUSINESS MODEL

Design and sell easy-to-use, durable and affordable irrigation pumps that farmers will use to generate income, promote a self-sustaining private sector supply chain and support the market with education and sales initiatives.

Annual budget

US$9.2 million for FY11 (Jun-11).

Delivered to date

Over 166,000 pumps sold (around 43,000 through NGO partners in over 20 countries), 106,700 new businesses created with $107 million in new profits and wages each year, helping 533,700 people escape poverty.

Impact

$1,011 represents the average additional net-farm income plus new wages per farming enterprise created per year in Kenya, the weighted average for other countries is $953.

BIG PLANS

To help 400,000 people out of poverty on an annual basis in the next 5 to 6 years.

Our investment so far

US$400k and NZ$300k (including NZ$150k from the New Zealand Aid programme) in unrestricted grants.
